What We Believe

THINK. BELIEVE.
MOVE MOUNTAINS.

"We must believe in the inherent ability of all children
to reach the same high expectations
which we must set for all of them.

It is this trust in the natural potential of every child,
backed by purposeful action,
that will produce the highest levels of student achievement.

And we will know that we truly believe
when the results for students
match our pronouncement."

- Mutiu Fagbayi (1994)
There is something inside every student that is more important than his or her background - an inherent greatness that transcends each student's circumstances or "condition." We need no further proof of this fact.

The central purpose of education is to facilitate each student's process of "greatness making," for the student's benefit and for the collective good. And public schools are society's "appointed agents" for making this potential manifest for every student.

Student learning rests primarily on effective teaching. Good teaching and successful schools depend on strong, capable leadership and sound organizational practices.

It is necessary and possible to educate all students at high levels in our public school systems. The capacity and resources to do so already exist, but the societal will to address matters at their roots often wavers.

That is why courageous leadership matters. . . boldly championing those ideas and actions that are imperative for creating and sustaining a system of strong public schools, and to focus unwavering attention on the primary intention of our schools: bringing out all that is great in every student, bar none.
